I often sing while walking or cycling, but I need to learn some new songs. I only know about seven or eight of them.

When I'm trying to get to sleep, often I'll sing a song, (to myself in my head,) and it almost always puts me right to sleep. Trying to think of the words I think has a lot to do with it. I use an old Eagles song a lot, "The Last Resort." It's kind of long and tells a story.

To my horror, I realised that as I was cycling home a few weeks ago I was singing "Farewell, Adieu, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodnight".
I HATE THE SOUND OF MUSIC!

Unfortunatley it is usually the same verse over and over and over...

Probably my son's first sentence was "Moma, please don't sing me lullaby's anymore." So I refrain from singing on my bike. However, I do sing in the rental car when I'm on the 3 hour drive from the airport to my mother's, and it's late, and I'm tired. It helps me keep awake. Probably blows off C02.

Sometimes I'll do it when I don't have too much to think about on the bike (in my head when I'm with other people!). As far as sleeping goes, I listen to some soft music from my radio to help me fall asleep.

For some reason, one song I sing to myself when cycling is "Quinn the Eskimo". I have no idea why.
I should point out that it's supposed to be bad luck to sing in bed- out loud that is.

I fancy myself as a budding opera singer!
But after the first line of "Nessum Dorma" . "Oh Mia Bambino Charo" etc , the language defeats me.

Next time you get a riding partner, try to see who can whistle the longest going up a long/steep climb. It can have interesting results and get you to laughing pretty quick so watch it.
Another thing I do is talk to strange dogs that sprint out to meet me. Sometimes you can read their body language when they respond to a calm voice and get clues as to what their intentions are.
It's a wonder I haven't gotten shot for a loonie before now.

Sometimes on a tough hill I'll say "C'mon baby light my fire", or on a downhill I'll say ," yeee-haaawww!!", or when I can't stop, "Oh cr@p!!".

"Old Dan and I with throats burned dry, and souls that cry for water, cool clear water.
Keep them moving Dan, don't you understand Dan, he's a devil and not a man and he spreads the burning sands with water, cool, clear water"
kinda hard not to have a song in your heart when out on the bike

There's a song by Aussie band Divinyls called Pleasure and Pain which I sing on long days in the saddle.
The chorus goes - "It's a fine line between pleasure and pain - you've done it once you can do it again - whatever you've done don't try to explain - it's a fine fine line between pleasure and pain."
It really sums up the feeling when you're searching for the motivation to finish a tough day.

One of the songs I sing during my early morning rides is, "The Devil went down to Georgia"
You know the one, yeah you're humming it right now! "He was looking for a soul to steal, he was way behind and willing to make a deal, when he came across ....."
