Almost my story exactly and it was three years with lots of riding before I started to feel I'd gotten over the past. Just keep pedaling.

Congrats on the lifestyle changes! You're well on your way to a better and longer life.

Another question: Do you ride with clipless pedals?

Hey thanks!
I do ride with clipless pedals.
Because of this thread I have shifted my midweek training specifically toward technique. I think it is going to make a lot of difference, thanks for the feedback everyone.

In addition to all the excellent advice offered so far: when you're with the group on those 70-mile rides, work your way to the front on the flats and slowly slide back through the group on the climbs. Pushing just a little less hard on each climb has more of a cumulative restorative effect than you'd think it would.
