Should I sell my gaming stuff to buy a bike?

Im $300 shy of getting the bike I want and the bike is $1300 after taxes. I got a nintendo ds and alot of games that I never play anymore and I got a 360 so im thinking of selling those to get the remainder of the price for the bike. You think I should sell them? I could get a job and ride to work probably then get the money back.

The bike shoppe says they have some 09 models up to $500 off but they might not have my size or right model and im kind of impatient.

Uh, I would get the older models if they're in your size.
A $1300 bike won't last long locked up outside your work, normally.

If you want what you want and refuse anything else, you'll have a rough go at life.

Yeah, get the bike. The bike is much, much better for you than those stupid games.

Like someone else mentioned, make sure you hang onj to the bike and get your money's worth! Regrdless of how you pay for it, make sure you include a kickass lock in your budget.

Also, ask the shop and call around to see if they have last year's model.. if they do you can buy the bike and a nice lock anda new helmet and maybe even keep one of your game systems.

What sort of bike are you planning on getting?

Since I started cycling, my gaming rig has sat unused in a corner, collecting dust. My bike gets used every other day. I say ditch the games and get the bike you want.

Just get rid of the games you don't play any more and never really liked that much. Keep the classic ones with replay value and the systems themselves. Nothing sucks more than wanting to veg out to some video games and not having any to play, and the DS will come in handy in the future when on long trips / flights etc. Been there done that, wish I'd kept the system.

People buy everything on eBay. Don't you have any other stuff to sell? It's often the small things: cables, adapters small parts, old clothes. You may be able to rise $300 from those.

On a side note, I was an avid PC gamer, and I sold my super-duper gaming computer in November and made a resolution not to play games. I play some puzzle games and a train simulator, but I was spending way too much time with shooters. So I might say, yeah get rid of the games and the system, but I don't know how much of a gamer you are. If you end up regretting it, you may wanna look into alternatives.

The DS is a handy cycling companion for gaming when you have a bit of time to kill, it fits easily in panniers or a small pack. I do a mixed bike/bus commute, and play the DS when on the bus or while waiting for some other reason.

Ya know what else works to kill some time and fits easily in a pannier or small pack? A book.

How much does a Nintendo DS or 360 fetch? I don't think used games fetch much if any.
You can always get a Kona Jake cyclocross. I think they are cheaper. Maybe around $1000 or less. 09s will even be cheaper.

cycling beats sitting on the sofa playing games hands down. This would be a no-brainer for me. Good luck whatever you decide.

IIRC, the OP lives like 80 miles from the only Kona dealer in the state of OK. Last time I was at that LBS, he didn't have any Jakes on the floor, though he might have some in the back or at his other store.

slipknot- any chance the LBS can call their 'Dale rep and track down an '09 cx in your size and still get a discount? Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Sell the games then go to your neighbors to use theirs.

Any bike you ride is way better than all the games that you dont play. So sell the games and get whatever bike you can buy. Dont forget to buy rack, mudguards, water bottle, tools and spare tubes. You can have a great time on a <$1000 bike like the Kona Jake.

I am seeing the answers I would expect on a cycling forum.

You would have received different answers on a gaming forum.

Good thing you asked here.

I'm rarely $500 off a $1300 bike impatient.

Is this your first bike? You don't really know what you like yet; it's a good idea to get something decent and used, then ride it for six months to know your mind.
