Weather on 9 March, Saturday

Wow! we have big winds here today (central Illinois)! 50 mph winds! Winds from the west! Good day to ride toward the east! Tried to get my stoker on the tandem....no way Jose! "How we going to get back?" she asks...."We pick up the old cell phone and call home!" She responded "FROM INDIANAPOLIS?!"

My point? It's windy today. It had to be this way for the first day of spring break! Oh whoooies us!

In central MO we had 'em all day yesterday, last night and still today. I'm sending them your way Gus!

Hey Gus, I don't know whether or not you read my thread in the lounge called "thought" were I was addressing that to ride 20 mph into a 50 mph headwind you would be working hard enough to ride 70 mph in a perfect, no wind environment. Maybe you could test this theory for me.

No Fubar, you can test it tomorrow when this wind from Dirtgrinder gets to you.

Yes, I did read the thread.

Hey man, there is a weather man in my bike group, and he says nothing but riding weather is ahead of us here in SC. We all know weather men are always right don't we?

We got your wind too. Funny thing was, before the windstorm, it was almost 50 degrees and rain. Afterwards, low 30's and snow.

We got snow as well. With this wind it won't stick here. I told my buddy on the west side of the Appalachians in Pennsylvania to look out though, I think he's going to catch all the snow passing (horizontally) by us.

Hey, Gus, wind like that is no problem. You just pedal into it for an hour to an hour and a half then turn around and coast the 5 miles back home.

The only problem I can think of with this is that I probably wouldn't get that far. When I did turn for the "coast" home, I'd be so wet from the hard work pedalling into the wind that I'd freeze before I could make it home!

I got hit by this storm on Thursday night. It was amazing, on thursday morning we had temps in the mid 50's, great weather, lots of sun. Thursday night we had wind gusts of 40mph, and 8" of snow. Friday, the temp droped to the mid 20's all day...

However today, Sat the 9th, its back in the 40's, no wind, and lots of sun. Im heading out for a quick 15mile ride up the canyon in an hour or so, cant wait!

It's been windy here in NE Ohio for two days, now I think we're getting that big blast from the west that you guys are sending this way.

I rode 34 miles/55km yesterday and it felt like twice that distance.

Hold on to your hats!

Well, it was like "kittycats," only substitute "p" for "k" and "s" for "t." Boy, it's tough working around the censors! Oh, yeah, you also have to put a "u" in place of the "i." Doh.

today......the most depressing weather ever. The sky is dark grey and it was 40 degrees earlier and now its down to 12. The snow wont go away either....we got 9 or so inches of semi heavy snow on thursday night, which cancelled school friday.

It's raining here now. That's cool though, it'll wash the and off the local trail and pack down the new sections.

I went for a ride yesterday in the windy weather. Winds here were 30-40 mph. Riding into a headwind, the two miles downtown took me over 15 minutes. But, the trip back home was a different story. On the only open stretch of road, I managed to get the bike up to 31 mph going slighty uphill. I was amazed. I only had three blocks before the stopsign, so I was cranking.

I had dense fog going to work. Actually had to take my glasses off to see! Coming home, however, was awesome: almost 60F, light breese, and my first daylight ride home since last fall! Your lousy weather can take its time getting here.

Well, your wind made it here yesterday. For the last 1.75 hrs of the ride, it was like a mantra: "Note to self: on windy days, circuit rides start into the wind and finish with the wind."
