Social justice issue(related to bicycling)?

If this needs to be moved, feel free...

I need to do a speech in the next few weeks for a speaking class, and I'm looking for topic ideas. The category is social justice issues. Aside from the politics and religion forum(abortion and religion are off limits topics anyways), are there bicycling related social justice issues out there that anyone might suggest?

It's a 2 part speech: part one is informative, and part two(2 weeks later) is persuasive. Any ideas you have, I'm all ears.

you could maybe talk something about how cyclists are supposed to obey the same laws as cars but have different needs? (thats part 1, informative) or the long standing debate on whether or not cities should change their roadways to include bike lanes... there seems to be plenty of debate in both directions on that so it might be good for part 2, persuasive.

+1. This debate is ongoing in Portland. http://bikeportland.org/ is a good reference, although not exactly unbiased.

Here's a good presentation on cycling advocacy: http://www.sfu.ca/city/city_pgm_video020.htm

You might also discuss how the poor often need improved bicycle facilities the most, yet what most often gets made by cities is recreational biking facilities in richer neighborhoods.

Or you could discuss how unseriously the police tend to take crimes against bicyclists or bicycle theft.

I have always been impressed in the switch from a lot of kids walking and biking to school vs being driven in the 70's to a lot being driven now. That with the childhood obesity epidemic is a rather shocking social justice issue.
