Long time biker, first time poster.

I own a Kryptonite Evolutions Series 4 U-Lock that ways about 10 pounds. I've gone through 3 or 4 bracket kits already because they keep breaking. I'm looking for a way to attack the U-lock to my frame without getting a rack or a trunk or anything like that.

I tried using some velcro I found at walmart but it was too weak. Is there velcro strong enough to securely fasten the u-lock to my frame?

On one of my bikes, I attach a u-lock through the seat rails, and then under the joint between the seat tube and the seatstays. It just barely works, and it's a fairly large frame (58cm), so you may or may not have similar success.

My frame isn't large enough, and I need to keep the lock stable.

Can anyone recommend some heavy-duty velcro straps that should work?

If you can find a set, get some Twofish Lockblocks. You can put it on top of your bars like they picture, or just use one to hang it from one side of the bars. Or look for their "Megablock" to hang it from the top tube.

I just dangle my NY Lock from the handlebars most of the time.

When commuting, I keep mine in a pannier or the trunk bag, (but not on top of my sandwiches!).

For just running around town without bags, I lock mine through the top rail of the rack--the legs of the U pointing up. It's heavy enough that it doesn't rattle over anything but the biggest, bone-rattling potholes.

My theory: You have a fast bike for riding, and an old errand bike for other stuff. The errand bike has baskets, and that's where you put your U-lock. The fast bike, you don't leave out, with or without a lock.

If you often ride to the same place, leave the lock locked to the rack at that location. I keep an eye out for good U-locks at garage sales, and my goal is to have locks at my top four destinations.

Also, I sometimes pick up one of my locks on the way to another location, and have even been known to leave it locked somewhere, and go pick it up next time I go there in the car.

I've got the Lockblock set, with the three pieces that hold the U-lock to your bars triathlon-style. I often use just one of them on the bars to keep the lock under control as it hangs on one side. I like it.

Yeah I don't like to idea of the lockblock set, it would be too awkward on my bike. thanx anyways.

Take my input as "yeah, they make good stuff."

Still, I don't know if I would dangle a U-lock within the frame between my legs. When I use one of these on the bars, it still swings side to side. But, if you cinch down the Velcro strap, it should do a pretty good job. The rubber block (which you won't get if you just use a strap) should help make it behave, too.

HOWEVER... One thing I don't like about velcro is that it eats the fingertips of full-finger gloves. That won't be an issue if you use half-finger gloves or ride bare-handed, though.

BarracksSi...so which of their products, or what combination do you recommend to attach the lock to my frame with maximum security and lack of movement. Also that won't take 30 minutes to take off and put back. THank you!

Just ordered the TwoFish MegaBlok from amazon....hope it gets here fast and does the job. I hope the 'ol Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 lock won't move with this thing.

hardware store usually sell the industrial strength velcro tape (one-side adhesive)- it's a 2" width, and strong as balls. What I did was take an 8"+/- strip of each the hook side and the loop side, and adhere them together back-to-back. Did this twice, to make two hook and loop strips. Used one to hold the the part of the lock with the keyhole to my top tube, used the other strip to hold the "U" section to the seat tube. This keeps the lock from swinging, bouncing or otherwise moving- Probably won't work there if you rock a water bottle on the seat tube, but clearly the velcro offers a pretty versatile mounting system, and if you score the stuff they sell in Lowe's/Home Depot, it's incredibly tough.

That sounds like a good idea, wish I had heard of that. Might try that out if megablok fails or needs extra support. megablok...sounds like something out of Transformers movie.
