I'm a selfish bastard
[rant]
Over the last few weeks, I've been taking my dog and bicycle to the off leash dog park at Chatfield state park. This way, he gets to run more(half husky), and I get to ride around some. Today, I passed a lady that wanted to confront me. She started off ok with her words, though her tone was quite mean. Asking if I would not ride my bike through the dog park, and saying that bikes aren't allowed*. I did everything I could to not resort to calling her names(like land whale, fat cow, etc...), when she decided the conversation(confrontation really) wasn't going her way, and called me a selfish bastard for riding my bike in the dog area. I rode away. I stopped at the parking lot and read both signs. At the 2nd lot(where I parked), I even called the number for the park. Specifically asked them if bicycles are prohibited in the dog park, and they told me no. By the time I was off the phone, the lady had appeared to get into her Expedition. I felt the need to point out to her that they are not prohibited, and what the 2nd sign says. Which she promptly went over and read(after apparently not understanding the word concurrent). Said something about working on getting bikes banned from the training area now, which I very highly doubt she can do. Just had to rant a little bit, since I restrained myself from calling her names. Had I called her names, I'd probably feel a lot better right now, but the walker/bicycle situation would probably be worse. And, as a side note, this is really a dog training area, and the people that go to train their dogs to hunt & retrieve, have complained about all the dog walkers at the park. *There are 2 parking lots. Each has a sign. At one, it says bicyclists and rollerbladers to use the C470 trail, at the other, it states to watch for concurrent bicycle traffic. [/rant] |
So, were any dogs hurt or killed during your rides? Perhaps you could have suggested to her that she looked like she could use some time on a bicycle.
There are always a few out there who will try to suck the joy out of your life. Don't let them. Keep riding!!! Ken |
If you are going to ride in the dog park, I strongly suggest fenders.

You should have just asked her for her phone number so that you can set up a dinner date.
|
bike? what bike? then look at her like she has 4 heads.

There comes a point with such people, you just have to say "You're wrong. If you still think you're right, call the authorities, I'm done discussing this."
|
Next time, tell her you ride in the dog training area to train the dogs to NOT chase cyclist and it is working out very well.
|
be proud. nothing wrong with looking out for #1

Sirrus rider, really?
Where do you get off claiming that most women are wily, ignorant, and mean-spirited creatures who are bona fide experts at being stupid? You sound like a real prince. |

I go to that park. It seems like there are plenty of areas that are conducive to bicycling. Though I have to admit, as much as I like to ride I wouldn't want to ride in a park full of off leash dogs. That is the equivalent of my commuting nightmare. Dogs can't get enough of rolling wheels..
