Has you riding a bike made someone want to ride bikes?

I bought me a cannondale touring bike and now it seems everybody wants to ride bikes now. They bought some walmart bikes and my neighbor is going to buy one too cause of me. I think they bought bikes that are really small for them, the bottom of their feet touch the ground when sitting on the seat, is that right or wrong? Have you getting a bike made anyone want to bike?

Nope. They just talk about it and still do nothing but sit around and continue to gain weight.

A few people.

My Dad, most notably, who bought himself a nice 10 speed and became a bicycle commuter for a number of years.

A couple of co-workers of mine at the first place I worked at.

My Pa got into it for a while and we did Solvang and Rosarita-Ensenada together a few times. He even started commuting to work and when the flight surgeon listened to his heart during a flight physical, his response was a whispered "Wowwww!"
Most other folks usually smile & nod with their eyebrows creeping up their forehead, while backing away slowly as if I were some kind of raving Christian fanatic or something.

Yes. A co-worker. She came to me and even asked questions... I loaned her my copy of Hurst "the Art of Urban Cycling" (I think that's the title) and showed her how to fix a flat.

I also maintained the "public bikes" we had at work for visiting Chinese engineers... thus giving them the opportunity to ride.

I also influenced my wife and son to bike... but gee, that hardly counts, eh?

I've heard of places where they have quite a problem with hobos and drunks sleeping out by the trails.

So were you able to influence them and nurture their love of cycling? ()

Yeah, both my girlfriend and an ex-roommate took up commuting by bike partially because of me. My lady commutes year round now, after years of calling me crazy for riding through the winter.

I commute to work and and started riding recreationaly (?) on the weekends. My riding buddy and organized a group ride for our coworkers. So we had training rides on the trail near us. Now one or two of our other sites want to get in on a contest for total miles ridden between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The boss I used to work for nagged me to bring in my bike, get it fixed up and dragged me out to lunch rides. That was ten years ago. Since then I've changed jobs and cities but not the bike!
Now in my office I'm the go to guy for bike questions. I've helped a couple people get out there but I don't think I'm the sole reason.

My kids though...

I turned my girlfriend into a bicycle commuter. My co-workers just say stuff like: "wow, Yan, you're so fit: that's not fair; how do you stay so skinny?" and then continue to drive to work everyday.

Oh definitely!! I've got several people into riding and a few even joined here! For some, I've gone with them to buy their bikes - and for those that didn't have the funds, I've given them bikes. I think last year I gave away four bikes. It's so friggen cool to hear them tell me about their rides and how far they've advanced.
