Just got the verification that cycling has been very, very, good to me.

Went to my doc last week for a yearly physical and returned again today for the results.

Three years ago-

Weight- 227
Total Cholesterol- 280
Triglycerides- 155
LDL- 168
BP 139 / 85

Today-

Weight- 175
Total Cholesterol- 172
Triglycerides- 71
LDL- 105
BP 110 / 65

On top of that, at 45 I now feel better than I have all my life.
Finally- I have found a healthy addiction!

Great work! Did you make dietary changes too or just bike a lot?

Good job. Good inspiration too, as my last visit to the doc was not as rosey. Not the worst, but my triglycerides and overall cholesterol was up a bit (although the balance between good and bad cholesterol was pretty good). I had lost down to your weight 5 years ago and felt great; unfortunately I'm back up to much closer to your start weight. Still... I need to be reminded that the weight loss I need to accomplish is possible.

I would assume a dietary change. I've been riding for over 40 years but still have high triglycerides due to my weakness for bakery.

The only change to my diet is that I now watch my calories very closely. I make sure that I don't eat over 2000 on the days I don't ride, and then add extra calories on riding days (40 calories per mile). Looking back, I don't think I really had that bad of a diet before, it was just that I ate too much (probably over 3000 daily).

Also, I did dramatically reduce my alcohol intake. Went from approximately 3 six packs a week to maybe 1 six pack a month.
