Helmet for colossal cranium

Hey guys. I did some searching but didn't find much information, so here's the deal. I'm blessed with a huge head and haven't found a suitable helmet yet. One size fits all stuff is rediculous, and my head laughs at an extra large. I wear a 7 5/8 fedora in winter, and a XXL motorcycle helmet will usually fit OK. My present cycling lid is an Ascent Strada road helmet that is advertised to fit up to 24.5" which should fit up to a 7 3/4 or so but it is tight across my brow. I've massaged the brow area a bit so I can wear it for short periods but all day comfort eludes me. I've tried on a few of the limited selection at the local shops with no luck and I hate to order and return stuff.

Any suggestions from experience?

Thanks!

Thomas

I have the same problem. I ended up finding a Giro helmet in a 63cm size, a few years ago, which *just* fits me. I don't recall the model, offhand, but it was one of the very few I could find that worked.

Not from experience, but I know Giro used to make a large helmet, but can't find it on their website now. While I was looking, I came across this link, maybe it will help: http://www.bhsi.org/bighead.htm

another option is to perhaps modify the helmet that is very close to fitting you. just a thought, but maybe removing a small bit of rigid helmet inside would not compromise the integrity, and you could replace it with a little strip of a sweat band type material.

Exactly what I did today and it is much much better! I chucked a 1/4" carbide burr up in my drill and gently relieved the offending areas and re-attached the padding and viola! A much better fit! I can't see where the integrity can be compromised much if at all, though I'm sure the "experts" will disagree, but I'm good with it! I'm still on the lookout for a new lid, and my brother who is also blessed with this huge melon said he has a Giro that fits him just fine but we have no idea the model.

Thanks again for the advise guys and gals!

these are the ones i've been able to find. some arent' available quite yet.
bell triton
lazer big magma 64cm(hard to find)
lazer helium 65cm(coming out next week)
Louis Garneu quartz(was supposed to come out back in feb, but still has not
I got a big head so i've been researching this stuff too.
Currently have the bell triton(don't like it but it works), and the lazer big magma(much better helmet, but hard to find and is mtn only)

I have a large (not XL) head and the problem I have is finding a helmet that fits my head's oblong shape. My helmet is a Giro- Bell helmets seem to fit rounder heads.
