Which is the better quality bike ? The Electra Townie or the Giant Transend? All input is appreciated.

I've heard of the brand Giant but not Electra.

Electra is a pretty well-known brand. It makes mostly "beach cruiser" type bikes, though it did come out with the "Amsterdam" a while back. A nice commuter rig for shorter distances. Why don't you just test ride, starfish4?

By the way, there are several models of "Townie" and "TranSend". If you really wanna compare, why not ask for the specific model?

The Transend rides quite smooth, its got a fairly long wheelbase depending on size of course which makes it good for panniers,no heel strike. Has a interesting frame design,id go the Giant route. I have a stripped down one. Rides almost as good as my Surly LHT.

Not really comparable bikes. The Transend is a conventional diamond frame made for commuting (would probably convert to a touring bike easily)

The Townie is more of a cruiser bike with a foot forward geometry. Depending on the model, you can have a front shock (mostly useless) or a sportier rigid frame.

The Townie is going to be heavier and somewhat slower riding than the Transend. It might be a little more comfortable because of the uber long wheelbase. Neither bike is going to provide a nimble racing bike ride but the Transend will be a bit more nimble than the Townie.

To me, a Townie is for sedate rides in the park or for the kind of riding where you want coolness over function. The Transend will be a work horse. What kind of riding do you think you'll want to do? I would suggest riding both before you purchase and include some terrain like what you expect to ride on.
