Questions & Answers - ULTIMATE bicycle guide
Okay - This may not be the ULTIMATE bicycle guide - yet, but I have high hopes
It's been longer than I had wanted - I miss these forums. If you'd make note, some of the questions are bolded green - those are the ones I'm especially look forward to reading replies to keep me attached and updating this thread. I've compiled some information that may help other community members - it only took about 45 minutes (spent around 20+ hours reading the forums, why not contribute back?)
Q: What's a FRED?
A: "Every circle has a begining"
Q: This is a beautiful website - who is the founder of this amazing online resource?
A: Joe Gardner
Q: What's a horsey? Does it Nnayyy?
A: My bicycle is a horsey because I ride on the saddle - yes it Nnayys (I pretend it's alive and make the noise myself )
Q: What are some great online websites to purchase discounted deals?
A: I Cycles USA, nashbar, ribblecycles, probikekit, performancebike, Northern Tools, Harbor Freight Tools, and more!
Q: What about bicycle turn-signals - they would probably be useful and cool looking right?
A: People expect hand signals from cyclists, that'd be enough in most weather conditions...
Q: Are wireless cyclometers just as ACCURATE as a wired one?
A: Not always - I personally recommend wired b/c wired internet>wireless internet (relavent but irrelavent right?)
Q: Where might I find a diagram and breakdown of a bicycle - part names, shifter types, etc..
A: www.SheldonBrown.com (R.I.P.) also www.ParkTool.com
Q: What are some great books you recommend?
A: Please visit this thread - enjoy
Q: Why should I purchase a commuter vest?
A: They are cost-effective, highly visible, and make you ride faster if you plan on riding 7+ miles
Q: What is the ULTIMATE bicycle accessory?
A: I prefer a "flickstand" - a resourceful enhancement
(others recommend a carrier rack)
Q: What's a good website to help me "plan my ride"?
A: Map My Ride is clean and cross-browser compatible.
Q: Feed me numbers - what will a 9 mile commute probably take (guesstimate) ?
A: Factor in traffic lights, hills, weather, body condition - 1 hour starting out than build into 30 minute travels (driving safely)
Q: Where can I follow the professional world of cycling?
A: The bikeforums.net thread and I also like Versus
I apppreciate quality feedback, keep me posted with your advice/corrections for me to insert into
this post - thanks a bunch I'll be back shortly to update.

Perhaps the reason for this thread's existence? This is a guide to what, exactly? A bunch of random answers to a bunch of random questions. You'd do better by making a glossary, a la Sheldon Brown. Also, there are no references for the answers you provide. Case in point:
Q: Are wireless cyclometers just as ACCURATE as a wired one?
A: Not always - I personally recommend wired b/c wired internet>wireless internet (relavent but irrelavent right?)
That 'answer' contains a terrible analogy, and even worse spelling.
Sorry for the downer post. Not having a great day, easy target, etc.
