kidney stone got me down today
never had one in my life.oh buddy did it hurt .went into emergencyroom from work yesturday afternoon with severe pains in my left side.come to find out after they did a cat scan that i had a 2 mm stone in me. ouch!they had to shoot me up with morphine and torridol to ease the pain .im now sick as a dog as a result.sure glad i wasnt out on a ride when this happened .i work a couple blocks down from the hospital,so security wisked me right to the e.r. i was just wondering ,anybody ever have a med emergency while out on a ride and had to find a way to the e.r. quickly.scary thought eh!

I almost had a third a few months ago but i swear i could feel it start -- I drowned myself in liquids as a last ditch effort to avoid it and got away with it.

I am sort of a kidney stone expert, having had about 8 or so, 3 in just a couple of months a couple of years ago. I have had the lithotripsy treatment. I really feel for you!

Shock wave lithotripsy is often used to treat kidney stones. It is one of the most important technological advances in kidney stone treatment. It has a success rate of 98%.
All lithotripters are not alike. There is a new lithotripter that is dramatically better than others. Older machines use technology that's about 20 years old. They require a substantial amount of anesthesia, more x-rays, and a water bath. Not only does the new lithotripter allow you to skip the water bath, and probably the anesthesia, it treats more types of kidney stones (including those especially painful ones in the ureter) and can cut treatment time in half!
In shock wave lithotripsy, a machine called a lithotripter is used to generate a shock wave outside of the body. The shock wave is focused on the kidney stone, which breaks into tiny pieces and passes painlessly. This is an outpatient procedure.
The more advanced lithotripters do not require general anesthesia or water baths. In addition, they can treat stones in the ureter, avoiding ureteroscopy.

all is good, just passed it. amen to the water thingy. i dont ever want that again .still kinda sore on the inside alittle. like i said before sure am glad i wasnt out on a ride.im giving it a rest today ill be back out tommorow ,,,maybe lol

I feel your pain! I had one about three years ago. I thought I was gonna' die. Not knowing what it was made it very scary! Happy to hear that you passed the darn thing.

Lofter..I work with a Mountain biker who has taken the whole month of August off for this exact reason.. James was in awful pain before he went on medical.. I hear they had to go in and remove it using surgery. He was using something that looked like a dog bone to live with the pain.Better than cursing.

Glad you passed yours. I would only wish a kidney stone on my very worst enemies. And believe me kidney stones are worse than childbirth (I had 3 kids)!

thanks again guys, im fine. did a 35 mile ride today.my side still kinda tender but i had no problems today on the bike .drank lots of water today .

Lucky people, lithotripsy!! I went to war with stones. Mine were huge, I can't remember the size but some of them went to a urilogy school for display. Mine had to be pulled out, there is only 1 opening from the outside into your bladder.

I think they come mainly from mineral buildup like calcium. Someone once told me that cranberry juice(if I remember correctly) would stave off kidney stones. After having a kidney stone about 4 years ago I really feel for you guys. They do cause tremendous pain.

I did one a couple of weeks ago. I don't think there's anything else on earth that causes so much pain for such a tiny thing. I know a couple of women who've had stones and given birth, and say it's comparable. At least my stone won't be asking for car keys in 16 years, though.
