Kona smoke new tyres 29er

hello there,

I have a 2009 kona smoke and was thinking about upgradingthe tyres for a bit more speed. They're currently 700-47 (eg 6foot wide 29" tyres) am i right in thinking that changing these for skinnier tyres may improve speed? Any ideas on how slim I could get away with? I don't want to smash the handling and the rims look pretty fat.

Any help appreciated.

You''ll need to measure the rim width and look it up on Sheldon Brown's sight. I'm guessing 32mm will still be safe, judging from other 29er rims I've seen. Continental makes some pretty good touring tires in that size.
