Large Helmet Recommendations, Please?

Okay, I have a large head (big brain too ) and I am shopping for a new helmet. Does anyone know which makes and models these days are sized for those of us who need an extra large size? My local bike shop said the Bell Triton and Giro Venti were the only ones they knew of that are made to fit large heads - both advertise they will fit up to 65cm. However, I notice that both of these models seem to be fairly basic and not have much in the way of fine tuning the fit.

Does anyone know of any other makes and models that go up to 65 cm? I am not overly concerned about price as I think my head is worth the investment if the safety features are proportionally greater than on a more expensive helmet than on an inexpensive one, but if there is a choice of two equally good helmets of course I would buy the less costly one.

I am convinced a good fitting and well made helmet is worth the investment since my last helmet is what saved me in a recent crash, which is why I am now looking for a new one.

Thanks for your help!

Mid to high priced helmets typically have sizes.

I have the same problem. I wear a size 7 3/4 hat and had a hard time finding a helmet that fit, let alone fit comfortably.

I think the Giro I looked at is around $120 (going back to pick it up Monday), but I can't remember if it was the Saros or the Atmos (the large Ionos was actually uncomfortable). The salesman told me one of their lower end (one size fits most) models starts out larger than most and should accomodate me. Honestly, at this point I'd rather just pay more for the one that felt best and not worry about price.

I can't attest to any other brand since most everything around here is Giro and Bell.

Take a look here:
http://www.bhsi.org/bighead.htm

The Bell Triton:
http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...4_10000_200385
and Giro Atlas:
http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...1_10000_200385
are listed as "universal large" for bigger heads.

My hat size is 7 5/8, but long & narrow. I tend to end up with divots in my forehead with most "large" helmets. I cured that with a little work with coarse sandpaper on the inside foam. My dad wears an 8 1/8 hat- good thing he's not a cyclist!

I too have a large head. Specialized has a model called "Max" and it starts at XXL.
It's not a high end helmet (in fact it's only $40 on their website), but it's better than wearing no helmet at all because you can't find one that fits.

Available in a few colors (I have a white one):

Just my $.02.

Just bought a Lazer Helium and really like it. The XL/XXL size goes up to 65cm.
The helmet I replaced was an old Trek Interval XL. More of a "sport" model, but the visor comes off easily enough.
Both fit my big melon head well
