Oh dear God, another car-bike rack thread!
Ok... so... I wouldn't be posting this if search had turned up anything.
Alright... Here's my conundrum.
I have a second generation (93'-97) Ford Probe GT. I need a bike rack. And I need one that doesn't interfere with opening the hatch. I'll show you why it's a conundrum.
There's no lip. Either behind the rear window, or below the deck line. (No, the explorer in the back ground can't be used, it's not mine).
I was thinking, maybe I could take a regular bike rack, and reverse the support that usually goes on the lower section so that it is the top, flip the bike attachment spots over, and that might work. But I don't know. I also thought, seriously, about installing a hidden hitch but they're not available for the GT's (likely due to the different exhaust). And while I'm not averse to using a roof rack, I think it might look tacky, this being a substantially lower car than most, though it would make it easy to get a bike on.
Any other Probe owners (past or present) that can chime in?

Not 100% positive, but I don't know how they're supposed to mount. If I could see a diagram, I could know for sure.

I think that perhaps your choices are "roof rack", "find a hitch that would work", or "it's impossible without impeding access to the trunk".

I think the trunk mounted racks prevent you from using the trunk regardless of what kind of car it's mounted on, especially with a bike on it. I know we could open the trunk with the Yakima rack my GF owns on her Taurus or my Contour before we both got new cars. But only slightly, and not with a bike on the rack.
Sounds like putting the bike in the car isn't an option for you either, is it?

I may in the end install a roof rack, but that's quite the expense unless I find a used one.
