Saris Thelma reviews/info needed
I've searched for info and while I can find some, I wanted to ask a little more while also giving specifics about my needs and see if anyone can relate and help. Alrighty, so to begin, I'm looking at a hitch mounted bike rack. My girlfriend and i are just plain tired of loading the bikes in the back of my pathfinder and risking them getting bent/scratched/broken. I have been doing research on different racks and settled on the ones that don't touch the frame. Namely the Saris Thelma. It seems to be a great rack for the price and easy to use. But, I have read they have some issues, namely the holders aren't big enough to handle MTB tires. However, I think this is only a problem with the older models, not the newest revised version. The thing is, this is only a problem until my girlfriend gets a roadbike. I ride a Specialized roadbike and currently she has a Vertical PK7(have little to no info on this bike, just know it's a full suspension MTB that weighs a freakin' ton). I know the weight limit of the Thelma is 35lb/bike, so this is another problem for a short period of time as her new bike will weigh around or less than mine (20lbs). So with these problems, I'm tempted to buy the Cycle-On pro since it will handle the bigger bike with ease, but at almost $100 more after I buy a locking hitch bolt and a locking cable, it's still pretty expensive and quite heavy from what I have read. Anyone have any input on the Thelma? Good experiences? Bad? Should I get one and push for her to get her road bike sooner? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the Cycle-On Pro?
