Temporary alternative to slathering sunscreens on face
FYI, I ran two tests of an alternative to heavy sunscreens for UPF protection. The biggest problem is the product seems to be discontinued but is available at sierra trading post.
It's a summer balaclava by Dr. Shade. I tested it at 84F yesterday and did not overheat. Here's a quick and dirty review: PLUS -- stretchable -- doesn't make you cook like Solumbra clothing -- has breathing mask -- covers entire head except for sun glasses -- super cheap right now -- tan color -- face does not feel hot when the sun hits it MINUS -- breathing mask area is a bit too small -- opening for glasses could be a bit larger -- need to have cloth on nose, or it's harder to breath. So if you like the idea, you might grab one or two before they run out. |
You say heavy slathering but what about spray-on sunscreens?

Is this it?
http://tinyurl.com/23cv9ah I might be willing to wear a long-sleeved summerweight jersey, but I'm not too sure about a balaclava... |
I'm intrigued. I see the guys mowing lawns in these things all the time.

That sounds like an arrest in South Carolina. Adults cannot wear a mask in public. Three letters, all K.

The primary protections is to cover up, secondary is slather (or spray) sunscreen. (no pun intended) |
