What brand is this?

Hey guys so I just bought this bike and wondering if anyone can tell me the make/model of it? The original owner painted it and the guy I bought it from didn't know what kind it is. The original color looks like a sweet dark blue/purple. Anyways now I'm just curious and wondering what it is!

Anyone have an idea?

Looks like a middle of the road late 70's early 80's bike boom bike. Pictures of the drive side and close ups of the components would go a long ways towards making the identification easier.

Huret derailleurs Mafac brakes..... Gitane? Peugeot?

Looks like she needs a little sprucing up - I'd break it down, clean everything, install new chain and freewheel, probably new cables. Should be a great bike for getting around town. I'd throw on some fenders and a different handlebar (townie or porteur style).

Ask the folks in the Classic & Vintage forum. They know EVERYTHING about old bikes.

No; the rear derailleur looks like a Campagnolo Valentino or Velox and is somewhat incongruous with the French Huret shifters and MAFAC brakes and Japanese crank.

I concur with the notion that it is a 1970s vintage European "bike boom" frame, but substantially "Frankenbiked" over the years. Whether it is French or Italian rides on the bottom bracket and fork threading.

My money is on French...mid 70's

Any signs of a serial number?
