This thread cracks me up.

Get over the poor self esteem issues and wear the required gear. Decent lycra shorts with chamois and a typical jersey with rear pockets. Layering street clothes on top of riding clothes is your problem!

People who presume to tell others how they should feel about what they wear, or need, crack me up.

And while what I wish to do may be causing me problems, I happen to also believe their are decent solutions out there. I reject the idea that the bike will control me and so I will find solutions, hopefully with some helpful ideas, which you don't seem interested in providing.

Not sure. While I know the small Blackbottoms prevented most of the irritation. I don't really know how much of the problem was because of previously existing irritation. It isn't like there was any clear signs, but I figure that doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't damage that the Balmex helped with. I am using it and, since in another week I'll be off the bike for close to three weeks, I figure when I get back on it, if there was any pre-existing irritation, it should be gone by then. AT least that is the theory!

I did my last ride today (vacation for the next 3 weeks), so I thought I'd give a final report and maybe ask one more question.

Ultimately, the Blackbottoms work (snug around the legband if I wear a small). I think the bagbalm works for me too, at least better than other things I've tried. I still can get a little burning on the scrotum sometimes, but that's about it lately - and if any of my problems are because of already existing irritation, that should go away during vacation.

I really am mystified by how the Blackbottoms are different than others. I mean, there are medium sizes of other shorts I can barely squeeze into and the legband is still loose. I get into the small blackbottoms fairly easily and the leg fits properly.

So, here is my question. Is there anyone else who wears blackbottoms and also has found other brands that fit as well? It would be nice to be able to try different options in case I like the chamois or something better on another brand.

Also, do any of you folks wear normal shorts over bike shorts like I usually do? I'm going to be looking for some better options there and am wondering if I should be looking for anything in particular. I know rafting shorts have been mentioned and I hope to check those out soon.
