Road and wind noise.

As we were discussing glasses and ipods etc at the LBS today,someone mentioned road and wind noise. One of the mechs said he had seen an add for a set of side clips that attach to your glasses in front of your ear that completely eleminate wind noise while riding. However...he could not remember where he had seen it! Has any one seen such an item or have another idea on the subject? Be nice to hear the semi that runs over you.{as a retired trucker ,I can say that}

I use a eye glass mount mirror. Concentrate on being safe and your brain will block out the wind noise.

I've seen one guy with the earbud-carrying version (the Slip) and he said that even with the earbuds installed, he could hear everything else more clearly than just bare ears without Slips or earbuds.

When I am In Control, I plan to reach down and smite everybody who rides with ear buds, headphones, whatever. Just, BAM, they're gone. It's the least i can do for the gene pool.

Better chase after deaf cyclists, too, because they obviously can't tell what's going on in the world.

Wind noise can get loud. Damned loud. Get a good gust and you won't even be able to hear your own bike. Ever notice how loudly you have to talk just to hold a conversation with a fellow cyclist?

Ambient sounds are unreliable when it comes to safety. You can hear the bus going the opposite direction, but it's so loud that it masks the Prius (or any hybrid SUV) that's coming up on your left flank.

IMNSHO, the sense of hearing is nearly useless on the road. Might as well get some enjoyment out of it.
