Trendy Bicycling with Style

So now that I've got a pretty cool bike, and being the artistic human being that I am, I am curious; what are some of the neatest custom bike accessories and personal-touches that you have or have seen? Both genders apply!

For starters, I found this custom "mod" that appears slightly more feminine, but interesting nonetheless.

Check out the Alt Bike Culture section of this forum. That might give you some ideas.

Several years ago (maybe even a decade), there was an article from a magazine floating around about"bike buddies"; they were basically whimsical toys or some errant action figure that was attached to the bike. I've seen rubber snakes, the Hulk, and one local I knew attached his packaged tools to his bike with vise-grips. (Don't ask me, I just relate the stuff, I don't arrange it.)

Maybe a priceless collection of Star Wars figures across the top of the bar?

The ceramic vase is a cute idea but one good fall on your bike and it's broken. Even worst, it can harm you, if any of those broken pieces come your way. Beyond that, I assume you live in thief-free country because that or anything else you put on your bike could potentially be ripped or broken off or unscrewed.

Seriously, save your money on essential/quality upgrades first, assuming you've done this already, and not window dressing, unless it's free or involve minimal cost.

Unless you plan to do this yourself, set aside money for the LBS when you have to take your bike for yearly maintenance (cleaning, tune-ups, etc.).

If you want to customize your bike, at least do it with upgrades that are practical first and cute second.

Take into account that whatever customization you do, may have to come with you when you lock up your bike. That's extra weight/bulk you're carrying besides anything else you're lugging around.

That being said, the cutest thing I saw on a bike was a plain little plastic doll a rider taped to his handlebar. The doll had a raggedy t-shirt and shorts. It actually matched the rider.

I have nothing extra on my new folder. I'd rather spend it on essential things I now need for it like: lights, a bell, a bike mirror, more comfortable saddle, better tires and inner tubes, a basket too hold my crap and possible new cruiser style handlebars for more comfortabnle handling.

After all that is done and I've put aside money for ER visits to the LBS, then I'll think of window dressing.

Hmmmmm. Come to think of it, I think I'll raid my great nephew's stash of forgotten action figures (dolls). I'm sure I saw figures with either one arm, one leg or even a head missing. I think I'll tape one of these dolls to the handlebars right now. It'll remind me to be careful in traffic.:p
