About 2 weeks ago my right pedal started clicking a little bit. Now it clicks very loudly. In fact people stop what they are doing to see what's making the noise.

Any idea what caused it and how to fix it !

I checked to see if it is rubbing against any metal, but nothing obvious is there.

Have you asked over in the maintenance forum? What kind of pedal is it? Have you checked your cleat if you are using clipless? When was the last time you cleaned and lubed it? How many miles are on the pedals?

It could just need maintanence. I just fixed a clicking sound once per revolution that had been going on for about a month, but unlike yours it wasn't getting worse quickly. I cleaned and relubed the bearings and it's gone now. It was caused by gradual build up of grime. The fix involved taking apart the pedal and about an hour of labor. The LBS can probably do it a little faster. The Barnett manual posted in bicycle mechanics forum can be of some help if you do it yourself.

It could also be damaged. It's possible for the ball bearings or the race they sit in to "spall" or have little pieces of metal break off during hard use. If so, it's time to get new pedals.

Those are my two suggestions. I'm sure it could be other things as well. Bikes can be like ventriloquists. I remember a person convinced he had a sound in his bottom bracket and it turned out to be a lose stem.

I assume you have tightened the pedal real well? A loose pedal wil make a clicking sound and is liable to strip out your crank threads.

If the pedal is tight, then check the crank bolt and make sure it is torqued to spec..

If those both check out OK, then maybe a bad pedal bearing.

I did one better. Since I only had the bike a month I decided to return it to the mass retailer I purchased it from originally. I got my $140 back and went to a LBS and bought a 27" Giant Hybrid. I figured I owed myself a 39th birthday present.

Since it was on a mass retailer bike, I'm skeptical as to whether or not it was even fixable.
