I take 1600 units of vitamin E and Aleve helps.

I have arthritis in one knee, this is the knee that I had knee surgery 30 years ago. I take Move Free, Tylenol-Arthritis Pain and Ibuprofen 400 mg.

5 years ago I had knee pain that was painful enough that I could not run without pain. I went to othopedic specialist, it turns out that I had a bone spur about the size of a postage stamp moving in and around the knee. I had the bone spur removed and the knee flushed. It felt much better, now I have some knee pain but I only feel it walking. The meds mentioned in the first line help quite a bit.

Go see a doctor.

The only sane thing to do is to see an othopedic specialist to find out just what's going on with your knees as well as how best to treat them.

My knees bother me from time to time. I've been diagnosed with arthritis in shoulders, hands and back so why not knees as well? I take vitamin I when it bothers me. for the knees, I try to concentrate on spinning rather than mashing. I can feel it when I try to push big gears into the wind or up a hill. When the knees start to hurt during a ride, I gear down a cog or two and really concentrate on spinning. It seems to help and I manage to get home.

Yup, you got to work through it. Not as hard. One of my knees acted up real bad. The docs had told me years ago, that running was killing my knees, and they were done to where bone is on bone. No cartlidge in there whasoever. So, when the knee when limp on me, paining like the dickens, I went to the docs. They X ray and MRI, and came back and told me it was arthiritis.

I had stopped doing leg workouts at the gym, but they told me to continue, just not as hard. Sure enough, working out lightly, I am back to doing squats.

For the pain, I just take aspirin.

My opinion would be, when the pain slacks, gently work the legs..

I gotta keep working out at the gym. Right now at 70 years old, Old man arthiritis, and old man age are just praying that I stop working out, so they can POUNCE ON ME!!

Luck to you,

ceh

Good ideas above.

My doctor told me to take 600 mg of ibuprofen before strenuous joint use. Check with yours to see if this is good advice for you, though.

Check the fit of your bike. Also try a different shoe/pedal setup. My knees complain less on longer or harder rides with stiff cycling shoes and clipless pedal. I also find that if my saddle isn't positioned properly fore/aft, my knees hurt more, so you might want to fiddle with this easy adjustment.

If you have access to a good physical therapist, he or she can recommend exercises that allow your leg muscles to take some of the strain off of the afflicted joints.

Aleve/ibuprofen is the killer app for arthritis, but be careful of stomach upset; the irritation can get bad enough to interfere with digestion, etc. YMMV, consult with a physician you trust, etc.
