Giant Sidona near my dumpster. What should I do?
Looks like someone threw out a Giant Sidona in my townhouse complex. It is sitting next to the dumpster enclosure. The dumpster is full of furniture. Probably the same moron that threw out the furniture threw out the bike. The dumpster is overflowing and no room for the rest of my neighbors trash.
Do I assume the bike was meant to be thrown out and grab it?
Looks like it needs a lot of work, new chain, cassette and saddle just for starters.

I'm going to go against what I know will be the wisdom of the crowd and say take it if you want it. To err on the side of caution, you might wait till the day the trash is collected before you do.

Assuming it was the owner that put it there, they officially relinquish ownership when they put it out for the trashman. You might make a reasonable effort to find the dumper and verify that they in fact put it there; but... better you than the landfill.

I say take it, based on the bike's condition and location. If it were leaning against a wall 50 feet away, I'd say no.
But dude...it's SEDONA.

I'll make a probably unnecessary note. If the bike had been, say, locked to a street light for months or left in a rack to rust, then its status might be in question. In the dumpster, it's trash; and it's fair game in my book.

Take it in , Post a note to see if it is stolen and was dumped there , by the thief.
say 'anyone had a mountain bike go missing?, describe the bike ' and see if anyone gives the right description.

if someone left a bike by a dumpster around here, it wouldn't be there long enough for me to go inside and post on bike forums.
