Finally figured out the messenger bag thing

It's more a fanny pack than anything, with most o the load sitting around the waist and the bag resting on the small of the back.

Sounds like a sling bag.
Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.

It rests easily in the middle of the back behind the hips, if you run the strap behind the neck and in front of the shoulders.
