Cane Creek Ergo Bars - big disappointment for durability

For those of you familiar with these guys, I wonder if you can confirm how you find their durability.

I find that the rubber on them tends to get all tacky and falling apart way too quickly for my liking - usually within 1-2 years I have to replace them. That's just not on.

Anyone confirm if they find this problem as well? And any recommendations for alternatives?

I mean, I freaking love the things. But I just can't in good conscience fork out to replace them on a yearly basis, that's just ridiculous.

Any chance you're getting bug repellent containing DEET on 'em? Because that's what ruined the handgrips on my mountain bike once. And another time, the wrist band on a sport watch. That crap is nasty.

Nicodemus, if you're talking about the Cane Creek bar stabilizers, I haven't had the problem after several years. There is some wear, and the little lizards are losing their defination, but they haven't gotten tacky or begun to fall apart. They are kind of pricy, but I love them.

I'm talking about the bar ends. I do love them so. The first pair went a good couple of years and died, now the second pair only a year and I've hardly ridden much. meh. Strange others don't experience this phenomenon.

No, I don't use bug repellent. Just unlucky I guess. weird.

I was thinking maybe I'd wrap bar tape around them or something.

I had noticed the more recent pairs I bought had slight softer rubber than the first one. Maybe that's part of it.

Oh well.
