Finished my first 50K Bike Ride....

WOW....that is all I have to say!!! I was so hyped up in the beginning of the ride and for the first 20 miles it was a piece of cake until I go to "the Hill". OMG, "the Hill" kicked my butt. After the hilll I decided to take it easy and just go at a safe pace for myself. When I crossed the finish line, I felt a sense of happiness and relief that it was finally over!!! I can not wait to do this same ride again in April!!!!

Congratulations!
You can always pick a weekend, get a good night's rest, and just pick a random route and do 25 miles each way to explore your town or city. That would make it a 50k round trip and it would be a fun way to get to know the area around you.

That rocks! Congratulations. The hills get easier, and pretty soon the distances stretch out. Keep the hills at an easy pace for now so you have more left in you.

Did you do the Rosarito to Ensenada ride? If so that one is a 50 miler, not 50k. (Actually my computer showed 52 miles). I did that ride last year.

this was our first rosarito ride too but we had done 50's before. There was nothing easy about this ride. We almost walked our bikes too but we saw some 'older people' pedaling away and chatting about wine while we were struggling on granny gears...i just could'nt take it. There were a whole lot of big-quads-professional-looking cyclists with really nice bikes walking their bikes up the first and second hill!. you should be proud of yourself. congrats.

I did my first 50 mile ride today! Felt great all ride too.

This is also the first time I have tried solid food on a ride (bagel) and it worked for me.

3 hours 30 Min total time, 3:05 on the bike. I had to make a couple of extra stops that I normally wouldn't of had to, had to make a special stop to get some more water 'cause i knew I would need it, but the only store on the route was after just 1 hour. One water botlle was empty, so I had someplace to put it (I actually mixed up another bottle of Accelerade) which is why I stopped there.

Had half the bagel at 25 miles and the other half at 40 miles. beside that and the accelerade I had 4 gels too.

I must, however, get better at planning routes. On the way home I was only 1/2 mile from my house and my odometer said only 40 miles. Well 5 more miles and then turn around to make th 50 I was shooting for today. The only drag was that put my last 5 miles INTO the wind.

I am just stoked about it. In March, I did 10 mile rides, and felt great when I got up to 12 and 14. Today I just redid my route and added 10 (and passing home) and felt better at the end than I used to when I was only doing 16 miles.

Ain't cycling cool? When I finally got out earlier this year, 20 miles with a 14.5 average left me gasping. Today I did 34+, averaged 18 despite a headwind for the last half, felt fine. There can't be another sport where improvement is so obvious.
