Advice on a topic for a technical report
Good day,
At the ripe old age of 40, I have returned to university to finish a degree. I currently have a survey engineering diploma from a 3 year program and the specialized training offered by the Canadian Hydrographic Service.
The university program I am pursuing requires the completion of a technical project and report. This technical project requires the identification and solution to a problem based on the courses in the program and the student's technical background. The project may involve: the creation of a design; the evaluation, selection, or development of a process; or the assessment of a technological advance.
My requirement to do this technical report is 1.5 years away, but I have started to think about it.
Well, there are 2 areas of "technical expertise" that I have:
1) Survey/mapping/hydrographic realm (yawn)
2) Cycling or specifically, cycling education/on-road cycling safety as I am a CAN-BIKE instructor. CAN-BIKE is similar to the Effective Cycling courses offered in the USA.
My preference is to go with number 2, as I am not really interested in doing a project and report on my line of work. I am interested in pursuing a topic on cycling safety in an attempt to offer some contribution to cycling. However, I am having some difficulty on narrowing down a topic related to cycling or cycling education/safety that would be a project/report type fashion.
I thought I would throw it out here to you fine people, to see if there is some particular aspect about cycling safety that you feel could be improved upon or expanded.
Or should I forget about it and stick to my career choice?

For #1, consider contacitng Joy Santee (email/contact info available over at CGOAB.com)
For #2, if you are a CAN-BIKE instructor and can't think of an interesting and reasonably researchable safety topic, I 'm not really sure anyone here on BF can help.
