    meeting other forum members

its always fun to meet the other people on the other end of the computer. today i had just that chance.
the spoon river drive is a drive thru illinois farm country and towns. along the way, you encounter fleamarkets everywhere you look .this is what draws the traffic, those dang bargain hunters. its fun, i go for the food myself. anyway, i pass thru the little town of cuba and get to stop by and meet dale aka (gus riley). it was a pleasure to meet and chat with you. chit chatted for awhile bout bikes, the forums and other cycling related stuff.had to have a porkchop sandwhich too.took some pics and could have talked all day, but got that look from the mrs after awhile like hey lets get going, had the mom inlaw with too so said goodbyes and headed down the road. here are the pics im in the red ball cap.

anybody else ever get to meet other forum members? its kinda neat to see the person instead of text.

Yeah, it is good to meet another Forum member and fellow rider! In addition to meeting Lofter, Tree Trunk and I have a habit of meeting on RAGBRAI when we both happen to be riding in it. This has happened twice so far. The first picture was during RAGBRAI 2002 and the second is this past RAGBRAI (2004)

I have also met Puddle Jumper in 2001 (RAGBRAI) and Outashape during RAGBRAI 2002! But alas no pictures of those encounters!

    Cheers!

Well, gee, we could have met. I've been doing the Springfield Century since 1982, as well as all of the big rides around Central Illinois. I've also ridden through Cuba a few times on the old Spoon River Centuries.

Last weekend I attended a gathering of bikejournal.com folks outside of Mena, Arkansas. There were around 30 of us gathered at what we called "First Union." We had such a great time that we are making it an annual event.

I wish I have had the pleasure to meet some folks from bikeforums. Just few and far between here in Montana. Molly (from Helena, MT) and I are planning on riding together as soon as we can get our schedules lined up. She is on BF. I really look forward to that ride.

Yeah, it's really cool to meet up with other forum members - there are several that go out on the Saturday night drunken rides here in Minneapolis. Gilby and I get together usually once a week now and ride for a couple of hours early in the morning. We went out with Naisme one night, too, but haven't been able to schedule another ride with him. Rattking made it out to the 3rd annual Northwest Bar Tour and a couple of the Saturday rides. Chumpslacker and a couple of others make it out almost every Saturday.

There's probably more that I just can't think of now... Lots of Minneapolis people on this board, it seems...

I met Brian (beach64) today. He, my wife, and I all took a ride to Sanibel. It was a 37 miler and a nice cool day, but it was also damn windy on the way back.

As far as I know, I've ridden with UncaStuart, Sailguy, BigFloppyLlama, Sherpa, Stinger9oh, and Sorebutt. But there might be some others that I just don't know about.

Oops! I forgot about scarry. I saw him on the Grizzly Century in 2003.

I haven't met anyone from BikeForums, but I have met one guy from RoadBikeReview and I've met a lot of people from all over the country from a forum dedicated to another of my hobbies. It's a great way to make good friends who share your passions in life. For those who travel frequently it's a fantastic way to have 'friends' wherever you go in this country and overseas. A lot of my travel has been significantly enhanced by meeting the people I chat with on the internet.

I have yet to meet anyone on BF (I don't think...). I'm sure I will eventually, there are a ton of people from my area on here. I've been on the same car-enthusiast forum (well, different sites, same core group of about 20-30 people) for about 5-6 years. I've met probably 5 or 6 of these guys in real life. I met one of them on a short leisure trip out to Colorado with my dad 2 years ago. He goes to CSU, we were going to meet up, and upon seeing the campus and speaking with him about it - it moved to the top of my college list. I ended up going here, and I absolutely LOVE IT. I LOVE Colorado, and I owe it all to him. So yeah. Its kinda awkard, but cool at the same time. I've also met members of the same forum from GB and Germany when I was overseas. It was kinda an ordeal meeting up with the guy in Germany... I was on a rental BMW motorcycle, and I was completely lost, stopping at pay phones to call his cell and try to meet up. He was making the longer trip though, I was just trying to find the other side of Munich (which I know is not bad, but I was adjusting to riding this motorcycle in traffic and whatnot.) Eventually he convinced me (I was on the complete WRONG side of town) to get on a Autobahn... Traffic was pretty heavy but I got her up to about 95-100. People were passing me in tiny little diesel compacts. It was crazy. Also, a note for those that don't know (since I'm already completely off topic) when driving on the Autobahn, STAY TO THE RIGHT. For God's sake spend a little time as possible in the left lane, and check to see if there is a 5er BMW going about 160-170 coming from behind you before you try to pass (I saw him, but i'm not accustomed to judging that kind of speed - I almost considered trying to pass, which would have enraged the guy in the Bimmer like crazy...)

    LOL sorry for the OT.
