    Mail Order Bikes (Bikesdirect.com)

I am helping a friend search for a new bike. Has anyone ever bought through bikesdirect.com?
If so, how was the service? I know the bikes come in 'shop ready' condition. But just how much
work did the bike need? Would you buy a bike via the net again? If so, can you recomend any
other similar .com companies? Thanks. DanO

    I orderd the following:

    http://www.sportchalet.com/product/i...entPage=family

It came partially assembled. I brought it to the local bike shop, where they fully assembled it and checked/adjusted/lubricated all componets (brakes, shifters, chain etc.) for $30.00.

It took approximately 5 days to arrive after I placed the order.

I am very happy with it.

    DanO,

I recently bought a bike from Bikesdirect. It is a Winsor Leeds (see below) and I got it from ebay, but from them. It was an unbelieveable steal (steel too!). It came in about three days, but it only came from Houston to Fort Worth, Texas, so it might take a little longer depending on where you live. It came in a typical bike box. The wheels, pedals, bars, front brake, seat and seat post were all separated from the frame/fork/cranks. The cool thing was that the cables were all connected, so all I had to do was mount the bars to the stem, put on the front brake, wheels and seat/seatpost, and it was done. It only took me about 30 minutes to totally dial it in. I was out riding quick! I would DEFINITELY buy from them again, even though I did not need their customer service dept., I feel that they would have done whatever they needed to if there was a problem. I did lots of research, and read the customer comments on their page, so I felt confident that I was getting a good deal. I even PM'ed DenverFox on this forum about the bike I got, since he has one too. The most important thing is that you get the right size. So, if you are not sure, make sure, BEFORE you order. It would be a huge hassle to send it back, even though they do take returns for 30 days. To wrap things up, I LOVE MY BIKE!!!
