when will they learn? NEVER just the wheel.
 

At my building, I noticed a new Trek 3500 -- the model of my new bike. Apparently, the owner had swapped out the quick release and replaced with bolts. But she locked down just the front wheel. It stayed there for three days, and now it's gone. Poof, with just the front wheel sitting there. I feel so wretched for her. Trek 3500 is a mediocre bike, but it sucks to get screwed like that.
When will we learn? Never just the wheel, no matter what sort of skewers you've got, and never just the spokes.

Maybe she thinks the thieve wouldn't know how to steal the rear wheel because she doesn't know how to take it off herself. :D

Maybe she lost the lock to her front wheel and decided to get everything else.

How about keeping bikes inside? They're nice to look at.

Once I came back to my bike after work. As usual, the front wheel was off with the cable going through all parts (it looks like a mess), but realized it wasn't locked to anything. One could've picked it up and walk away.

ive seen some right awful lokc jobs...the worst had to be a guy u-locked his bike by the bars...i could have flipped the bik upside down and taken it...and it was a pretty nice looking bike.

...I dunno....for me it's always the rear wheel and triangle that gets locked if nothing else...if i have QRs, then the front wheel has to fit somewhere. My commuter uses thru-bolts so its no biggie to leave teh front unlocked.
