I've seen these things in times square in NYC as tourist traps. Seeing one of these monsters roaming through heavy NYC evening rush hour traffic with 7 people on board going 15 mph scares me.

They sacrificed aero for weight, they shaved it down to a svelt 200 kilos thats only 29 kilos(63 pounds) a person.

[edit add]And for the low low price of just 9500 euros (10 grand U.S.) hmm makes it a tough choice. One sweet seven person bike? Or 7 crappy $1,400 bikes?

I bet if you shoved the top 6 finishers in last year's TDF in it with michael schumacher steering, you can get this baby up to 88mph on the flats and several hundred mph on the downhills.

I can see it now- "Our team was out using one of these conference bike thingys on a multi-use path when this racer guy on a bicycle came crashing into us. We don't know why he was so upset. It really brought our team together when we hurled abuse on him and intimidated him until he left. I mean, why should the 7 of us get out of the way for one guy?"

Seriously though, where could you safely ride something that wide other than an empty parking lot?

On the other hand a critical mass would look really funny with 20 of these things cruising around the city. I wouldn't want to be one of the people sitting sideways if you had to stop fast. Somehow I don't think these things go that fast though.

<edit> It weighs 400 pounds! 400 / 7 = that is 57 pounds a piece to push along the road. They state the top speed is 10 MPH. <edit>

Hunh. A couple weeks ago I saw people riding one of these things after midnight on a more or less deserted street in midtown and wondered what the $@#%$ it was. I never would have put the word "bike" to it, though. At the time I liked it because I figured the riders were a group of creative people who had invented and built the thing. It's disappointing to see that it's a commercial product. I still think it's kind of appealingly goofy, but yeah, it's nuts to think of it as a bicycle or to consider riding it in traffic.

I wish I had a pic of the twenty person bike we have in Calgary. It's used for the heart and stroke foundation(I think). If I see it again I'll try to take a pic. I don't even know where they ride it. It's huge.

If you're ever in midtown, these things are a tourist trap. There's 2 especially, one driven by a guide dressed as spiderman and the other by this big black dude dressed up as wonder woman.. or at least s/he sure looked like a dude in a bathing suit...
