Used bikes in NYC

Anyone know any places where I could find some old used road bikes in NYC? Im looking for something cheap to get around on, with narrow tires and drop bars, that either wouldent be a target for theft, or that wouldent set me back to much if it was. Perhaps maybe some thrift stores or something. Im not just sure where. THX

Craig's List has plenty of used bikes for all sorts of prices..Some of these ads are from used bike shops. Some look a bit questionable so you might want to limit it to people who will give you a receipt.

Time's Up was also selling used bikes from their Bike Space on East Houston Street when I passed by there a week or two ago.

Unfortunately NYC has some laws that pretty much prohibit stores from selling used bikes because of liability issues. However, this doesn't apply to Salvation Army. I'd check some of the larger Sal's in town, they have some nice stuff every now and then.

The sixth Avenue flea market on Saturday sometimes have used road bikes. The also have old 3 speeds for sale too. It's between 24 - 30th streets on 6th Avenue.

oh yeah! There's also a flea market on Avenue A and 10 or something like that, I forget the location exactly, but it's up the street from Tompkins Square.
They've often got bikes too.

I stipped by there a few weeks ago. There was a guy right near the gate selling photographic stuff, three used bikes, some bike parts, and my current helmet which I bought for $5.

It's always worth a look
