I've noticed that references to bicycles are included in TV commercials for the most unexpected products. I'm no expert in marketing psychology, but I'm assuming this is no accident. Bicycles apparently strike emotion in peoples brains, and producers know this.

Here are a few that I've noticed in the last several weeks.

For those TV watchers out there (admit it, YOU know who you are) see if you can add more....

Car Commercials:
Audi
Saturn
VW
Subaru
Dodge
Nissan
edit: add Avis Car Rental

Financial Companies:
TD Water
Wachovia
Evergreen

Misc:
Uncle Bens Rice
HP computers

LAR ( Lance Armstrong Related, these don't really count)
LAF
Nike
US Postal
Bristol Myer Squib (sp?)

p.s...just to mess up the system, I pledge never to buy any of these products

I don't watch much television at all, but when I was in Atlanta I turned the TV for a sec and caught a commercial with bikes. It showed a man and a woman racing around town on road bikes, at the end it went something like "If this is your idea of speed dating, then this is the beer for you...." I think it was for some crap like Amstel Light, but the commercial was alright.

I watch so little commercial TV, not a good candidate . From what I watch I know there are some..Seems few are w/o Lance.
One time Gallup called me, years ago...Asked if I knew TV logos' for products..Mostly cars....
Guess, they wanted me to answer to see if logo's could cut through my abstainance of Commercial TV. Seems I recognized like one of of 10. Proud of that.

LOL, I know, I know, seems that nobody admits to watching much TV on these forums. Not surprising because after all, because 1) we are active people and tend to do other things, 2) most forum users probably use the internet as there primary media source as opposed to TV....But still, I'm sure you've seen some.

Don't forget political ads. I noticed bikes in Barbara Boxer's ad and the ad for Proposition "O".

I noticed this a while ago. A LOT of commercials have them. They promote a sense of closeness at the community level.

I think maybe in addition to community, they present a certain image that a company wants to associate with their product...with car companies I think bikes present an "active lifestyle". In financial commercials, I think they try to convey intelligence or intellect. I'm not sure what Uncle Bens Rice was trying to convey , but I did like the very subtle reference when you could see a guy carrying in a roadbike in the back of the kitchen in the restaurant.

Powered by Turd looks like this dude that was featured in that 60 mins spinoff show. 60mins xtreme or something. This dude was obsessed with bjork and made a video about it. At the end he shoots himself in the face.

I have a love hate relation ship with ttv. Love to hate it, hate to love it. Favorite Lance/Foriegn Child Labor Company #1 (Nike, duh.) was the one with the group riding through San Fran(?) and the group gets bigger and bigger. This critical mass brought to you by: Nike.
