Fun, fast and comfortable bike for a tall guy?

I've recently been in the market to replace my old Schwinn MTB. It was much too small for me being 6 foot 4. I couldn't pick up much speed on our bike trail and the frame is starting to fall apart. I went shopping around yesterday with the notion that I shouldn't spend more than $500 on a bike that I can only really use 6 or so months out of the year. I found a lovely 2010 Giant Cypress DX hybrid on sale for $400. I always liked the idea of getting a hybrid bike, as it can do a little bit of everything. The only thing I'm wondering is if it's the best bike to take for daily 20+ mile rides. It's certainly in my price range. I guess I'm just wondering if any of you have other recommendations (in that price range) or if you know someone with a Cypress that enjoys it for various reasons?

P.S. I am also young and in extremely good shape (only weighing 165 pounds). I'm not necessarily looking for a "beginner" type of bike. Just something within that price range.

I like the Giant bikes, they have always been a good value for the money to me. I have a Giant Iguana (rigid MTB) that is 22 years old and is still chugging along. I also have a Giant Excursion (trekking bike) that is a about the same age. I would go for fit first and worry about price range second. Also look at cross bikes with the drop bars. An upright bike is going to be a bit limited in top speed by your riding position. Nothing wrong with a hybrid if that is what you are going to ride and like riding it. Your riding style will probably change over time and you may even end up with more than one bike. I primarily ride upright bikes, but I am not in any hurry to get anywhere these days. ;)
