Do I need new brake pads?
I got my bike in January. So far I've done around 350 miles on it. I have disc brakes and lately they have been squeaking a ton. Is it time for new pads or are they still good? If i put weight on the bike and squeeze the back brake it can slip but it takes some effort. I have a service plan so I would get them for free. Is it time yet?

They should last far longer than 350 mi. Are they correctly aligned, and were they bedded in?
Mine only squeals when wet, and metallic/sintered pads are more noisy.

Did you use any chemicals while cleaning your bike? It could have been something that got sprayed on the rotor and transferred to the pad.
I had the same problem with my front brakes (disk). I took the pads off and found there was no pad left, so I replaced them. I need to buy new rotors and pads (F&R) this year though for like new braking. If you have a service plan, take it to the LBS and have them take a look at it. It wouldn't hurt.

Nothing got on the rotors. The only thing used on my bike so far was a chain lube and it was applied by a tech shop employee. I'll take it into sports authority if it seems to get worse, thats where I have the service plan.

probably just need a toe adjustment. that's the angle at which the pads hits the rim. the leading edge should hit first. as pads wear they need occasional adjusment. should take a bout a minute per pad. two minutes per wheel. got tools? try it yourself! :-) check youtube for howto videos on "adjusting bike brake pads toe adjustment"
edit: oh sorry didn't see you have disc brakes. I'm totally ignorant about those but maybe they also have a toe adjustment?

There are alternate sources for brake pads for most popular disc Calipers.

I'll get free new brake pads with my service plan. I think I'll take it in when the weather gets worst. I ride this bike on the trails around the city which are paved. My ride to the trail is rather hilly though and I do use my brakes a lot.
