Any Salt Lake City/Utah people here?

I'm not allowed to double post but would like some input on this thread I did:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ice-on-2-bikes

I would like to see if I can get some opinions on this post as well as what bike shop you guys like or to avoid here locally.

I've narrowed down to 2 bikes in SLC.

1. Trek 7.5 at https://guthriebike.com/

2. Cannondale Quick 4 at https://www.contenderbicycles.com

I tired other bikes at Bicycle Center, SLC Bicycle Co., Bingham, and Taylor's Bike shop in Taylorsville. These didn't seem as helpful as Guthrie and Contender. Not bad service but nothing special. All of the bikes I tried had tuning problems or maybe the bike just sucked. I don't know. Can anyone help with that and their tendencies?

Because the 2 bikes at Guthrie and Contender, the bikes were solid and didn't have any problems test riding them. Could this be because these 2 bike shops are better builders or are the bikes better? I'd imagine because they build the bikes better? Can anyone give me advice on these bike shops? Anything would help. Thanks!

I'm a SLC people.

I like Fisher's and Bicycle Center, both have great service and have done well for me and my wife. I would avoid Taylor's, they have not been great at being helpful, or at going the extra mile. When my wife and I last went there, they would not even talk to her, even after I explained we where looking for a bike for her. They just kept asking me, "What type of bike does your wife want?". BC has been great at educating me and going the extra mile for service. They will even cut some cost if you just ask.....

Where is Fisher's? That's odd. I almost got the exact opposite from your experience from Bicycle Center. They weren't bad but seemed less helpful as the other shops.

Anybody know much about Guthrie and Contender? Those are the 2 shops I'm thinking of buying a bike from. Got mixed reviews from Contender and not really much from Guthrie.

IMO Contender is a premium shop with premium prices and premium service... IF they think you're a premium cu$tomer.

I'm with flippin - I like Fisher's and BC - I bought a couple of bikes from BC, but that was many years ago. Guthrie's is also a great shop.

Just keep in mind that you're only dealing with one or two folks, so go when they're not pressed for time, let them know that you'd like help, and keep things positive. The upside here is that you've got more than one good shop. Choice is good.

Hmm that's weird about Contender. I have also read some mixed reviews of them about the high dollar thing and clients, but I haven't seem to get that impression the 2 times I went there last week. Although I did have help by the same guy and he was one of the managers so maybe that is why. Or, maybe they've changed how they do business.......I hope.

Yeah, I was interested in a lower end bike and I seemed to be better treatment than most of the other shops. Beats me! Like I said, maybe becasue I was talking with the manager.

That's cool, I seemed to miss Fisher's. I will be going there today to see if they have anything to offer. Luckily they are right by Guthrie and Bicycle Center.
