I have no experince biking there, but downtown is nothing but one way streets and dangerous retirees. Watch for them. If you're not used to the way some of those people drive, it's a real frightening kind of randomness. The Dali Museum is nice though.

sadly, I do most likely have to move there, or go through the job hunt hell most tech workers are going through now.
Yeah I was worried about the blue-hair set falling asleep or however they manage to drive that badly, and harassing me a bit...but if I can deal with VTA busses that triangle me into having to jump onto curbs, and accident-scammers....then I think I have at least a half chance against the odds.
Now the dali museum sounds like something to do, definately on my list of places to go once I get settled in.
The area isn't very bike friendly. The pedestrian mortality rate is the highest in the country. But they do have the Pinellas Trail, which is a 34 mile paved trail that runs from South St. Pete all the way up to Tarpon Springs, a small, primarily Greek town to the north. The St. Pete waterfront downtown area is very nice. They have a number of bicycle shops in the area, Revolution Bikes on 4th St., Chainwheel Drive in Clearwater and The Energy Conservatory in Dunedin. There's also Dud Thames in South Tampa, across the Gandy Bridge. The Suncoast Trail is a 41 mile paved trail that runs from Hillsborough County, thru Pasco county and into Hernando County. They're talking about connecting the Pinellas Trail to the Suncoast Trail thru the Upper Tampa Bay Trail. Another favorite biking place is Bayshore Drive in Tampa, which is 6 mile sidewalk along the bay. The houses along Bayshore are spectacular.
If you are going to move near 275 and Gandy, there are a lot of nice places off of 4th Street if you are starting in an Apt.. There are a lot of nice places to ride but riding to/from work is not a easy thing in Tampa/St pete area.. There are a lot of nice bike shops in the Tampa / St Pete area.
In south Tampa there is a bike club that rides every Sat at 8:00 a.m. It would only be about 15 minutes from Gandy blvd.
I have been in the area for awhile, so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I can give you any details you want
