Greatest Lies of cycling...

So I have built up and I'm commuting on my newest bike. Looking for and have bought a bike for my son to enjoy as well.

During the last build I got to thinking about how much bull we cyclists tend to say to our spouses or significant others concerning cycling endeavors...

About buying or building a new bike...

"Honey, this will be the last bike I will ever buy."

About riding...

wife - "I told momma we would be coming over for a visit today, how long do you plan to be out?"

me - (looking at my clock reading 10:00am...) "Oh only an hour or so."

anyone else have any good ones?

My spouse and I cycle together. We've got a house full of bicycles and cycling stuff and since we both enjoying getting new cycling things, there's no need to lie about it. You all should get your families into cycling!

But the biggest "lie" I've heard while cycling is probably, "It's all downhill from here!" ... or maybe, "Don't worry ... we'll have a tailwind when we turn around!"

"It's not as bad as it looks."

This can be used piecemeal in relationship to hills, route maps, TdF crash footage, road rash on own body, etc.

My family does cycle, she does very little. She's very understanding about the whole thing but she asks how many bikes does one person actually need?

Similarly, I've told my wife, "this is the last hill on this route." I've done it so often that it's our inside joke at the start of any significant hill.

In a similar vein, "This is the last big hill before we get there."

If you do the Idaho Springs to Mt Evans ride, that would be perfectly truthful.

We'll have a tailwind for the ride home.

I didn't even notice her. I was looking at her bike. (I hate to admit it, but sometimes it's true.)

5,000 ft of climbing is like 2,000 ft if you bring an extra ClifBar.
