Hauling your bike(s)
While it would be best to ride from home my cycling club is 22 miles away so doing the club ride at 6pm means I gotta drive there and then ride then load up the bike and drive home again. Best setup I have used is my old 85 long bed ranger 2wd pickup with a bed bar, nice to just reach over the side and lift out the bike. Has anybody bought a car/truck with bike transport formost in mind?
Got to thinkin about getting a Escort wagon and changing it into a ElCamino type truck, the Dodge Rampage and the VW pickup would fit as well but are even older.
This is what happens when I have to much time on my hands!

I've got a 70 Chevy 4x4 and had some old mast holders from my old roof racks from back in my windsurfing days attached to the rails of the truck. It basically a U-shaped bracket with a rubber strap. I mounted it so it holds my seattube and another for the rear wheel. It works pretty well, but I've got to be carefull to not go around corners too fast or it'll fall over and the weight will release the rubber strap.
I've also got a new Tahoe (wife's vehicle and "our" traveling vehicle). I've got a hitch mounted 4 bike rack for that! It's a Hollywood rack and works pretty well.

I mounted a 2 x 6 across the bed of my '02 F150, then bolted a couple of those skewer-block things to it, and presto, instant dual bike rack.

My PT Cruiser has the split rear seats. I just take out one side and wheel the bike in. My roadie fits as is, the hybrid or MTB need the front wheel taken off.
Has the advantage of having the bikes inside the vehicle if I have to stop somewhere, where security is an issue.

Maybe in the future the 20 mile ride won't be nothin for u, so you can then instead ride to the group meeting, do the 20 miles, and then ride back.

Two proablems with that, I would have to stop farming at 3:30pm and I usually work till 6pm. Worse I would be riding into commuter traffic. I really enjoy riding with others, if only as a test if my own fitness.

My VW Passat wagon nicely accommodates two people with two bikes. I am ordering bicycle mounting adaptors for the roof rack, which will let me put 3 bikes on top, and 4 people and 1 bike inside.

I just take the front wheel off and stuff it in the trunk of my Jetta, with the back seats down, of course.

my bike fits in my camaro, just fold the rear seat down... its a little tricky thouhg. It would be alot easier if i didn't have the amp rack in the way.
