What goes through the typical Motorist's Mind when he passes you?

I'll start:

1. "I need to get me one of those. I'd have spending money for lunch by not buying gasoline and stop supporting the illegitimate war effort!"

Around here it's more like, "Why is that guy in my way? Get the crap (or whatever expletive you think is appropriate) outta the way before I run you over!!!"

"I don't want to hit the cripple." as they give me about 10-15 ft. of passing room.

Passing me? Female motorists think, "Who is that distinguished looking gentleman on that incredible bicycle machine? What a handsome fellow!" Male motorists are thinking, "Wow, I'm suddenly rethinking my orientation. I wish I was him."

Other bikers? Motorists are thinking, "Get the hell out of the road, are you crazy, riding on this road?"

Speaking as a motorist who has passed cyclists ... and who has almost run over stupid cyclists ...

"HOLD YOUR LINE!!! Stop wobbling about and looking like you don't know what you're doing!"

or

"WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ... WEARING BLACK WHILE IT IS STILL DARK??? Where are your lights? Where is your reflective gear? Where is your light coloured clothing? You are so lucky I happened to see you just in the nick of time."

or

"WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ... RIDING ON THE SIDEWALK, AND THEN SUDDENLY DARTING OUT IN FRONT OF A MOVING VEHICLE???"

or, fortunately, sometimes ...

"I wonder what bicycle he/she is riding"

or

"That looks like an Audax Australia jersey!!"

or

"Now there's a cyclist who looks like he/she knows how to ride a bicycle."

"GOTTA PASS HIM BEFORE WE GET TO THAT RED LIGHT!"
"**** slowin me down, F that, I'll pass him, cut him off, then make an immediate right!"

I really think herd mentality kicks in while driving. People feel the need to be up front, ahead of the slower vehicles. It makes no sense, so it has to be left over from an earlier point in our evolution when being slow meant a greater chance of death/missing a meal.

I was wondering where the heck he is, that people might think that way. Then I figured it was an attempt at irony. But, yeah, I don't need any more political crap here with all of it I get everywhere else.

Because for some, bicyling is a militant political statement in and of itself. I'm one of them, and I don't apologize for it at all. I'm a passionate guy about a number of things. The world needs more passion.

When I get passed, I like to think they're surprised at how fast I'm actually moving; or admiring my calves. But probably not.

I think, I wish that were me. Luckily, around here bicycles are becoming common enough that no one thinks much of them. It's a small town so no rush to get anywhere, it only takes a little while to get across town.
