Do you ever lock your bike to your roof rack ?

Or are you ok with just using the locking mechanism on the tray ? Example: your done riding and you decide to do some food shopping. Do you throw an extra lock on your bike by locking it yo your roof rack on your car ?

I have used a cable lock to secure a bike to the roof rack. No locking mechanism on the trays.

I always use the tray lock. If I will be out of sight of th bike for more than a few minutes, the cable lock goes on.

My rack has locks to keep it from being removed from the car. And when I'm parked somewhere with the bike on it, I use a cable lock as well. I just make sure to remove it before driving off - I don't need that thing banging around on my car's roof, or on the bike.

I have a hitch rack with a special bolt mount (Allen) and I always lock the bike to the rack if I'm leaving the vehicle out of site for a few moments. In higher potential threat areas I use my Krypto NY lock. Otherwise, I use my heavy cable lock.

My old Saris roof rack has a cable that anchors in a groove in the cross bars. I run the cable through bike frames and wheels. I will stop the bikes from flying off the car if the front QR slips (this has happened) and will deter casual thieves.

Yes, do it all the time when we travel with our bikes. No big deal. Thwarts the casual thief; the pros would just cut the cable.
