Randy Shaw- old friend who was a bike mechanic/bikestore owner in northern CA in 80s.
I had an old friend in the 1980s who I lost touch with who I wonder a lot about. His name was Randy Shaw and I knew him in Arcata, CA. in the 1980s. He later started his own bike shop, I think in Sonoma. In the mid 80s I went through a difficult breakup and I lost track of him. Note: he's NOT the San Francisco Randy Shaw who is a housing advocate and blogger. Randy was such a bike geek that I am certain that he is still involved with bicycles somewhere. Randy was also almost attached to his bike at the hip.
For example, I lived on the second floor of an apartment building and Rndy would always bring his mountain bike (he was one of the first MTBers) up to my apartment with him, and when he left, he would inevitably get on his bike in my living room and then RIDE OUT THE DOOR AND DOWN THE FLIGHT OF STAIRS.. He and his girlfriend would always use their bikes and trailer for shopping at the Arcata Co-Op.
Arcata, CA is kind of a bike paradise.. (they are best known for their yearly Kinetic Sculpture Race..check it out) but he was probably the most bike oriented person I knew there.
Randy was a really great guy and he taught me a great deal about bikes.
I would really like to know where he is now and what he's doing.
