Padded shorts

Hi all,

I've been cycling in anger now for 3 weeks. I've got through the hugely painful seat bones part and now all is fine. Actually, things are comfy.

I'm getting to the stage now where I'm extending my rides to beyond an hour and I'm getting pretty uncomfy in the saddle, especially as some of my routes involve some very bumpy tracks and even some field paths.

I'm thinking of getting some padded shorts, are they likely to make a difference?

Cheers in advance.

Matt

Don't go cheap on the shorts. Get good quality shorts. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I like pearl izumi's.... and on a side note:
50 miles or more + Pearl Izumi's + Chamois cream = more comfy ride.

Try a pair of bibs, I rode in shorts for a few years and the switch to bibs made a HUGE difference.

I second the bibs, I like my PIs. Just remember, nothing should come between you and a good pair of shorts or bibs. Figuratively and literally.

I really like the bibs, but I still have a belly and I don't like it when the shorts roll down. Hopefully by summer that won't be an issue. But I still like the fit of bibs.

Ebay is a great place to get deals on quality bibs. I have been using some Primal (nice bibs) and some Performance (mediocre) bibs, and recently got a very nice pair of Hincapie bibs for $30 on ebay.

Thanks for the advice folks. I'm still early days yet, so it'll be a while before I break any decent millage, I'm surprised though how fast my (large) body is adapting.
