I'm a man now! Ra!

WARNING: SHAMELESS GLOAT BELOW.

At the start of this year I wanted to ride at least one imperial century in every month of the year, and today I achieved that. It was also the third century in 13 days (the other two involved hauling a full touring load). 170km, 1,627 metres of climbing. It rained -- that's a bonus. That meant there was less dust on the dirt roads. A friend of mine joined me on the ride -- he tried to tell me it wouldn't rain! And can anyone believe that a December day in Queensland (or Northern NSW for that matter) only reached 22 degrees C? I can't. In fact, when we were sitting down to lunch at the Uki Dreaming Cafe (the best eatery in the universe), totally saturated after a heavy patch, it even felt *gasp* cold!

I'm too lazy to type, and a picture paints 1,000 words, so:

And of course, we were obliged to finish up with Urliup.

Any questions?

Congratulations Chris L.
Anyone who hits a target is to be congratulated. I just envy you your weather. 22 C here is a fair summers day.
Well done and many more to come for you.

No. You're still a gorilla. Keep trying though, you may just shed all that hair and walk completely upright one of these days.

Yeah, I have a question. Did you ride the whole way on dirt roads?

The club I'm riding with does a century (edit: 100 miles) every month, but we use paved roads.

Tom

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an " imperial century"? What we call, around here, a metric century?

I'd guess the opposite. Imperial century - century measured using the imperial system (miles), metric century - measured in metric system (kilometers). So what we call, around here, a century.

No, there are only 25-30km of dirt roads in yesterday's effort. There were more than that on one of the centuries I did in Victoria (the second of the three). Of course, the catch is that even with that amount of dirt roads, the rest of the century still has to be ridden on a bike capable of dealing with it.

An imperial century is 100 miles or 161km. A metric century is 100km.

Don't worry, I'll start whining about the heat soon enough. 22 degrees C is just about the coolest December day I can ever remember, and I've been living here for a decade. Normal service should be resumed soon, I'm just enjoying this while it lasts.

I've actually lost count of the total number of centuries for the year. I'll have to check up on that on activebody.org shortly. In anycase, the year isn't over yet. I might squeeze in another one or two if time permits.
