I don't know a thing about the Yakima. I can share my experience with a Bones 3.

I had four key features I was looking for in a rack:

    1. Flexibility--I don't own a car and am unable to predict what sort of car, hatchback, station wagon, van or SUV I can borrow or rent. It must fit anything.
    2. Compact storage--My storage locker is 3' x 4' x 7'. It must fold up so I can fit other stuff in my locker.
    3. Easy to use--I don't use it often, so it has to be easy to remember how to adjust and attach it to cars.
    4. Safe for the bikes--I've seen racks where the bikes all sway and bump into each other and the car. I didn't want that.

The Bones 3 meets all four of my criteria.

    1. It's fit everything I've ever tried to attach it to.
    2. It folds up again and I store it in the box it came in, which is roughly two feet square and eight inches thick.
    3. The arms and straps are all labeled so it's easy to figure out when I use it again.
    4. And most of all, it holds the bikes by both the top tube and the seat tube so they don't sway. I add a bungee between the front wheel and the downtube to keep the front ends steady. The only way they could be more stable is to weld them directly to the car.
My two favorite things in life are libraries and bicycles. They both move people forward without wasting anything.

Lucky for me, I work at a library and bike to work.

I love my saris bones. I use a bungee as well, but loop it from the front wheel to the back to keep movement to a minimum.

The answer to the question is always, Saris Bones.
