Helmet fitting an odd-shaped head
I'm just getting into cycling, road only on local neighborhood streets, and am looking for a helmet.
I have an odd-shaped head, and ran into difficulty with motorcycle helmets years ago, and had to settle for one too large... my head is longer and narrower than normal proportions, with a tall forhead. X-large helmets are typically too tight on my forhead and too much room on the sides- and generally look ridiculous.
I've not found anything in my local bikeshop that works well, I've learned of Nutcase helmets, that seem to be the answer- in that they have an adjustable internal strap- and stick-on liner pad strips to help custom-fit to one's head... this seems to be a possible option, though there are no dealers around, so I can't say.
Any other options out there??
Thanks!
Wes

Try a top end Giro at a LBS. Insist on one with RocLoc-5 adjustment (with the little dial at the back like this - https://www.webersports.com/store/Gir...5-P2224C0.aspx ). Don't get RocLoc 4 - there's no vertical adjustment and the little presstab things eventually break. Good luck.
OR
you could try one of these: https://www.coolbuddy.com/gallery_pic...ket_helmet.jpg ; )

Also try different models of the same brand. For example, the Specialized Prevail doesn't fit me but their much cheaper Echelon model fits me perfectly. I too have a longish head and for motorcycle helmets find the Arai long-oval models (Profile) to fit me best.
One thing I've done with bicycle helmets is sand down areas of the internal foam to get a better fit. It doesn't take much, usually much less than 1/8". This will of course void the warranty and also make the helmet less effective in a crash.

Generally, Giro works with oval heads like yours. Bell seems best for round heads. Both have adjustable suspension systems, but Giro is probably best for your head.
Note the word "Generally."
Can't comment on your Nutcase brand, except to repeat that adjustable suspension systems are too common to be used as a basis for a purchasing decision

To follow up on this, yesterday I went to Dicks Sporting Goods and 2 LBS's.... and tried them all. I could find a helmet at Dicks- one particular model of a Nishiki that SOME of them would kind of fit... but wasn't really happy with it. Came home and ordered a Nutcase from Amazon- I'm a Prime member, so only $3.99 for overnight shipping- I just got it- and it fits me great!! They include extra pads to customize the fit... I'm so happy with it! When I was younger and riding motorcycles, same problem...
So bottom line, I highly recommend the Nutcases!
