Came home with N+1 and, boy, the wife is madder than hell!

Boy am I in the doghouse! Back in November, I get permission to get a mountain bike. Everything is cool and the wife jokingly says something to the effect of 'I can't believe you asked me.' So I have a mountain bike and a hybrid and have the hots to get a drop bar bike to get my speed up a bit with the goal of doing a century this year. I text the wife and tell her I went by the LBS and they had the drop bar bike I wanted and it was in my size! 'Please don't be mad at me'. 3 hours later I get a reply saying 'You better be f'ing kidding!'. Uh-oh! So I get home and she won't talk to me. Says 'You don't want me to talk to you right now!' I guess I should'a asked

So here it is, a Specialized Crux Disc Apex. It may be for sale in a few days, so get ready.

I am delaying getting my dad's 1940s CCM cruiser because I know there's gonna be a fight over how many bikes there are around the house. (Fortunately she doesn't read this forum).

They say forgiveness is easier than permission, but in my case it appears to not hold true

She's just jealous of the attention the bike will get. You may want to let her know how much she means to you with a gift. Some slinky bar tape or a sexy new seat pack, perhaps.

Yeah, I try to keep the Mrs well stocked with plenty of what she likes so when I find the next +1 it will not be a problem.

Good luck!!

Just make certain that you're the most verile and romantic stud guy ever known to the world for the next week or so. Make sure that you feign that you're really listening to her, in the most focused-like manner.

Oh! Yeah! ...And smile a lot, too!

Good Luck!

All joking aside, a bike isn't worth it. Tell her you made a mistake and take it back tomorrow.

I usually hide the new bike in the basement with the hopes he won't notice. When I bring the bike upstairs I tell him it has been in the basement.

You guys are weak on the presentation. You don't say 'I just got'; you don't say 'I bought. Take a tip from the government. Any time the word spend comes to mind, substitute the word 'invest'.

Won't work forever, but it's a start.

explain the N + 1 concept in terms of shoes. I bet if you start counting the shoes in her closet she'll get the message.

For the low low price of shipping, I will gladly take that bike off your hands, to help you appease your wife.

(I know. I'm not helping.)

Is your wife upset because you didn't get her one too?? What were you thinking? You should have taken her to the shop and let her pick a bicycle too.

Bianchiguy: I'm curious if you ride all 22 of those bikes. Or are most of them just a collection? Are they all original parts?

GaryPitts: I don't blame her for being upset. $2000 on a third bike? How would you feel if she came home one day with a $2k ... something. I was going to say jewelry, but the bike is going to depreciate while jewelry may not. My cats only complain when they don't get their tuna.

Wow, my wife bought me a custom Seven Ti, cause I didn't like the Klein Alu "Temp Bike" I bought after I lost my good Italian steel steeds, to supplant my slow bikes, till I could get somthin "nice"

Hey, tell her it's better than bein hooked on Booze, Drugs, fast women or fast cars

Am I the only one to see the obvious here? The one question that still needs to be asked? How did Bontrager anything end up on a Specialized?

For your example, how about a $2000 camera (camera + lens)? (Just got mine the other day. )

There's nothing wrong with spending $2000 on a bicycle ... or jewelry ... or photography equipment ... or whatever catches your fancy. Nothing to be upset about.

Presumably the OP made a deal with his wife so that when he spent $2000 on a bicycle, she could spend $2000 on whatever she wanted. Or ... he should have.

The "difficulty" Rowan and I have is that if I get a bicycle (like my titanium, for example) ... Rowan wants a similar bicycle (so he bought a titanium). Now we're looking at a pair of touring bicycles ... and we're talking about a pair of folding bicycles for some point in the future.

Just about everything cycling-related arrives here in pairs.

She got hers back in the summer. She only has one though. Maybe I should have bought her a +1 instead of me.
