should i feel bad for my LBS?

Hey guys im in a dilema. The LBS here carries felt, cannondale, and khs however they do not have any khs in the store, but can order them. I want to try the khs aguila to compare to the felt nine sport ( which they carry) and am wondering if i should ask them to order me the khs to compare, or if they even would do it. Should i feel bad if i dont buy it? it sucks because im an xL frame and that's not something they can sell easily if i dont get it. whats u guys think? thanks again

Would you feel bad about laying down a large non-refundable deposit on the order before they order it in for you? It would be highly unlikely that they won't ask you for a deposit ... especially for a frame they won't sell easily if you don't end up buying it.

Yeah, they wlll want a deposit for a bike they won't be able to sell. My Synapse had to be ordered and they debated whether or not to ask for a deposit. They decided it was a model/size/color they would be able to sell and didn't ask for a deposit. If they don't actually have any KHS in the store, seems kind of lame to claim they carry that bike. They can ORDER it, but they don't really carry it IMHO.

Are you in a position to promise to buy one of the two bikes if they let you try both? "Promise" might mean a non-refundable deposit.

The thing with LBS is if you don't use them you'll lose them.

You live in Irvine CA, correct? There is no shortage of shops there, can you find another shop that carries that frame?

Seriously, if you have a good relationship with the LBS, explain your situation. They may agree, you never know. I wouldn't feel bad, as long as they know you may not take it.

UC Irvine has a Basket ball recruiter seeking out tall players all the time.

[he probably gets paid more than any PhD professor]

why would it be un sellable

Check both out online and compare the frame geometry before you have them order one.

Never forget the rule, try before you buy. You can look for a bike like you want at another shop and then decided. If you then decided to have them order it you will make two people happy, yourself and the LBS. But remember if you decided to buy from the other shop you more than likely will have to take it back there to service unless you don't mind getting the "look" every time you walk into your LBS.

just buy the one you like the most. don't waste your time "trying them out". you won't have enough time on it to make any reasonable determination. it's just like marriage... in a few years you'll want a new one anyway.

:eek:If you are married and you buy a bike you don't love you more thna likely won't ride it. It will go in a garage sale in a year and one of us that would love the bike will buy it for $150.00. Then your SO will look at you with that I told you so look and remind you of your mistake as long as you both shall live.

Don't be the one that hears, "I told you so." Try before you buy.:D

Why that's easy. Just put the ball in their court.

Go to your preferred LBS and tell them exactly what you've just told us. Let them be the ones to tell you what they are willing to do for you. If, after doing that, you wind up buying a KHS from another dealer, so be it. It was their decision not to take the risk of bringing in a KHS for you to test ride.
